About Jan Taylor
Jan Taylor’s journey to becoming an author was anything but conventional.
Starting her academic path in psychology at the University of Vermont, she ultimately graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in Renaissance Studies.
Though these fields sparked her curiosity, they didn’t directly lead to a career. After years of working as a doula and childbirth educator and raising three children, she pursued a nursing career.
Jan has worked as an RN and BSN for many years, teaching introductory nursing courses for the last 12 years of her career.
After majoring in Renaissance Studies and psychology in college, she went on to become a nurse, doula and nursing educator.
A New Chapter of Writing Pioneer Spirit
Jan’s foray into writing children’s books began unexpectedly after a broken leg forced her into an involuntary hiatus.
During this time, her precocious 9-year-old granddaughter, already reading at a high school level, inspired her to write Pioneer Spirit.
Jan’s love for creating strong, charismatic young female characters shines through her books, with several more works for preadolescent and adolescent girls in progress.
Today, she enjoys retirement with her husband, their two lively Golden Retriever puppies, and nearly a dozen grandchildren in a peaceful bayside home in Virginia.
When not traveling or volunteering as a museum docent, Jan spends her time reading, writing, and gardening.
